Aycliffe Evangelical Church meets in what was once the Greenfield Community
Hall in Ladybower, at the top of Stainmore Crescent, off Meadowfield Way. The Church began life in the late 1980s renting
the hall each week, but then moved to Sugar Hill Primary School in 1997. In May
2006 the Church moved back to its original home, having purchased the hall from Sedgefield Borough Council and carried out
major interior and exterior renovation works. Why not pay us a visit and see the changes? The church provides a vital and
integral part of the religious life of the local community. But why are we called Aycliffe Evangelical Church?
Why Evangelical?
The word ‘Evangelical’ means sharing the good news of Jesus
Christ. Our church is called Evangelical because we believe God has written the Bible, through different people, to tell us about Himself. It is good news for men
and women and its truth affects every single one of us. The central message of the Bible is that without
Jesus Christ we will all be held to account by God for the wrong things we have done – what the Bible calls sin. But
the good news is that ‘God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall
not perish but have eternal life’.
Why Church?
As a Church we have bought what was once
Greenfield Meeting Hall. But the Church is not the building
- it is the people.
The Church is made up of all those who believe in and trust the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sin.
Why Aycliffe?
Because most of
us live in or around the town. It is our local Church. We are in this
area to be involved with the local community – with
a growing range of activities for all ages. But there is always something special about every one of our gatherings
– we always share something about
the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Why don’t you come along and find out why we get so enthusiastic about Jesus
Christ? It could be the turning point for the whole of your life.
